Middle School Tour

I took some time off work yesterday to meet with Mount Clemens Middle School principal Paul Reeves, who was kind enough to take some time out of his day to sit down and talk with me. I was given a tour of the middle school as it now stands and got to see a variety of classrom experiences on a first hand level. It was also great, on a personal level, to see many of my old teachers, some of whom I’ve kept in touch with, others I hadn’t seen in years.

We discussed the current Middle School situation, the moving of the kids to the secondary complex, and what challenges lie ahead for Mount Clemens schools and the Middle School in particular. I am glad I could be given the opportunity and appreciate Mr. Reeves’ honesty and frankness about the situations at hand.

I also decided to go drop in on High School Fine Arts Coordinator Lissa Volz, who sees things from the eyes of an educator and a parent. She has always been very frank with me over the years and this meeting was no exception. Overall, it was great discussion all around.

Fundraiser Wrapup

Special thanks to everyone who came out on Sunday for the Bowling fundraiser. It looked like everyone had a great time and I was really happy to see that. Your support means more than you will ever know, and I am forever in your debt for doing this. I’m not sure at this point if there will be another fundraiser or not but I will keep you all posted.

Also, thanks to everyone who keeps contributing via paypal, every little bit goes a long way! So thank you so much.

Fundraiser Details Announced!

Those who know me know I’ve been wanting to get a fundraiser together for a while now. We finally have something set up for March 22nd at the Rec Bowl in Mount Clemens (click here for a map). It’s going to be $20 per person for unlimited use of the bowling alley, no limit on beer (it’s included in the $20 donation) and you’ll get some pizza too. We’re also going to do a 50/50 raffle, so someone is going to leave with some money as well. We might get a few more things going on to make things more eventful, if that happens i’ll let you know.

I hope to see you all there.

Meet Akindele

Meet Mr. Akindele Akinyemi. Akindele is a professional curriculum writer and a strong proponent of improving education in urban areas. He’s always traveling the state going to the most dire parts (Muskegon Heights, Benton Harbor, Pontiac, Detroit, etc) looking for ways to reach out to the community and make things better. You can even see him subbing from time to time at Mount Clemens high school, just another way he stays in touch with what is going on today’s youth at a personal level.

Akindele has been a great advisor to me and my campaign, and I’m proud to have him as a supporter.
