Elect John Cruz

For Mount Clemens Schools Board of Education

About John

I’ve been active and around the community for many years now, but for those of you who don’t know me, allow me to introduce myself!

I spent all of my K-12 education days in Mount Clemens Schools, starting with Seminole Elementary in Kindergarten and graduating from Mount Clemens High School in 2003. During those years I experienced education as a student in the traditional Mount Clemens education curriculum as well as the Edison Schools curriculum. My senior year (2002-2003) I was active mainly in the music program, including assisting in teaching 6th Grade band students as well as with the Young Educator’s Society (and a few other organizations). I graduated with honors from the Music Department and the National Honor Society.

After High School I attended Baker College, earning an Associates degree in 2006 and my Bachelors degree in Web Development in 2008. I have still kept in touch with some of my old teachers at Mount Clemens and for a few years following my high school graduation I assisted with the band program and with the young educators society as an assistant adviser, traveling to conferences and lecturing educators on technology. I also stayed up on events within the school as my younger brother graduated in 2007.

After much debating from friends and colleges who have urged me to run for the board, I decided to do it. Education should be tackled from a common sense perspective focusing on results and critical thinking. Watching the education system over the years it saddens me to see that so little has changed when the world around us is changing so rapidly. My age is a great asset to me, being able to still recall what things were like when I attended and still be able to see things from how current students see them, as well as gather perspective from teachers, alumni, parents, and members of the community.

Currently, I work as a web developer in Warren, MI and live outside of downtown Mount Clemens. I still play music for enjoyment and truely enjoy making the most out of life at every turn. If you have any questions or want to learn more, don’t hesitate to contact me.
